Effectiveness Bank alert. Alcohol Matrix Bite 25

Matrix Bite Alcohol Matrix Bite 25: Treatment systems to cut crime and safeguard the community
The last of the 25 ‘bites’ for the Alcohol Treatment Matrix explores research and guidance on constructing systems featuring screening, brief interventions and treatment to cater for problem-drinking offenders at various stages in the criminal justice system. Included here too are other local area or national systems which benefit the community by identifying and/or responding to problem drinkers.

The theme is set by an Australian government review which explains that criminal justice and treatment systems must collaborate to deliver treatment for offenders, but also that this is problematic due to radically different starting points. We invite you to measure your own systems against its key ingredients for partnership working, and to ponder why drinking is prominent in sending thousands to prison, yet not in the services provided in prison.
