Edith I was going to continue to use parts of the old version. Especially the "Protect" marking and caveats. As we have set up our system so that this protective marking is visible to staff (especially on the client and HR files)and provides them with a memory aide to be more cautious about the data. And I totally agree that for those organisations who have spent considerable time and effort implementing the Government's previous protective marking scheme, this must be very frustrating - (euphemism). It also illustrates the importance of placing your own organisation's requirements at the heart of any information governance strategy, applying external standards & schemes cautiously and with a clear understanding of your own organisational circumstances, operating environment etc... A good example here would be those organisations who virtually cut and pasted TNA and Moreq standard requirements for electronic records management systems when creating their EDRM specifications - a bit like going to a supermarket and buying one of everything. -----Original Message----- From: The Information and Records Management Society mailing list [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Edith Pringault-Adam Sent: 02 April 2014 13:37 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: 3 new security classifications replace 6 levels of protective marking In an environment such as HP TRIM where the previous security levels were clear and well defined (in my authority), and used in conjunction with caveats and groups, it was straightforward. The introduction of streamlined and seemingly easier security levels is not a straightforward change. We have already seen some issues with this. And there is no mapping possible between old and new (indeed that is not recommended!) But then of course, it is not compulsory for local government to adopt unless dealing with Central Governement Agencies.....
