Best- Troy POSITION DESCRIPTION: Responsibilities include directing the FourDesign Center within the School of Visual Arts; teaching within the undergraduate and graduate curricula; facilitating design studios, production management and creative direction; creative scholarship, participating in committees and outreach opportunities, and assigned administrative duties. The position typically has a 3/2 teaching load. One course per semester of this load covers the teaching component of the FourDesign internship process. A major duty and component of this position involves collaboration with other programs within the School of Visual Arts (SOVA): Studio Art, Art History, Creative Technologies and Material Culture and Public Humanities. SALARY: Commensurate with experience and qualifications. ANTICIPATED START: August, 2014. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: * a 2/3 teaching load of undergraduate and graduate courses from beginning to advanced levels * serving as Director of FourDesign (http://wearefourdesign.com), a student-run, faculty-led graphic design Center * maintain an up-to-date proficiency with tools and software packages as it relates to teaching and creative research in design (e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud, etc.) * school, college and university level service and outreach * student advising and curriculum development in the VCD program REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * terminal professional degree (M.F.A. or equivalent) * previous experience or demonstrated potential in a leadership position * accomplishments in positions of responsibility in Visual Communication Design * the ability to address aesthetic, technical and theoretical issues * a record of significant graphic design work * a thorough understanding of the history and contemporary practice in design * awareness of new and emerging technologies * proficiency in Mac OS and Adobe Creative Cloud PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have additional experience in one or more of the following: * interactive design * packaging design * web design * advertising * 3D graphics and time-based mediums * computer experience with additional applications such as Final Cut / After Effects For additional questions about this position contact the VCD Search Committee chair, Ann-Marie Knoblauch ([log in to unmask]).
