The MeCCSA Postgraduate Network in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Media and Film, University of Nottingham host:

Challenges and Changes in Public Engagement
Postgraduate Training Event
Friday, June 6th, 2014
10am-3pm, including a free networking lunch

A training event aimed at providing postgraduate students with tools and resources that will help them to effectively join the gap between their academic research and the non-academic community.
The event will address challenges that doctoral researchers encounter when disseminating their research to the public, industry, and local and international communities. It will comprise workshops and discussions with academic and industry professionals, providing students with practical guidance on how they can disseminate their research via public-facing organizations, collaborate with local media, and build relationships with schools and community organizations, including:


Public Engagement and the Intercultural Community
The ABCs of Working with Industry: Challenges, Pitfalls & Ways to Survive It
A Conversation with Broadway Media Centre: Collaborating with Local Media
Widening Participation and Outreach: Schools & the Community
Public Engagement and Social Media

Industrial Approaches to Media: A Methodological Gateway to Industry Studies

The training event will be comprised of methods workshops, covering practical and theoretical topics such as ‘Interviewing Media Professionals,’ ‘Knowledge Exchange,’ and ‘The Ethics of Media Industry Research.’

Travelling by Train

Nottingham is right in the centre of the country and is very well connected to all other major cities by the train network.
Regular services operate between Nottingham and London St Pancras (from 1 hours 45 mins), Birmingham (1 hour 15 mins), Leeds (2 hours), Manchester (2 hours), or Sheffield (1 hour).
Be sure to book as far in advance as possible for the cheapest tickets and check out East Midlands Parkway Station – it’s close to Sutton Bonington Campus and often does deals on fares: www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk.
For train information, tickets and timetables visit the National Rail Enquiries website.  Nottingham Train Station to University Park The University Park campus is 2 miles from the Nottingham Train station, about a 40 min walk or a short bus ride.
Beeston train station to University Park University Park campus is between 1-2 miles from Beeston Train station which is between 20-40 min walk or you could take a short bus ride

Parking

If you are visiting the campus temporarily then you should park in one of the pay and display car parks on campus. These car parks are highlighted on the campus maps below. You can also ask the advice of the Gatehouse staff when you enter one of our campuses. There are also disabled car parking spaces available.
