The Museum of Modern Art in Rome has a very interesting project which is not only for people with dementia but also their carers, families and even the medical staff who are supporting them.

I have mislaid the card of the museum representative who spoke at the last LEM conference (Bologna) about this but perhaps other GEM members might recall her name. If not, Google will help.

Cheers

PS the extra interesting thing about this project is that they evaluated the impact of the project on the patients with dementia, and their families, and their carers AND the medical staff. I don’t know of any other project that has taken such an holistic view on outcomes and impacts. Really worth looking up…

Subject: Training (or anything) to help with delivering tours/reminiscence sessions for people with dementia

Hi,

Does anyone know of any good resources, training or meetings, online discussions (etc) about delivering reminiscence sessions or guided tours for people with dementia?

We have found during our museum tours and object-handling sessions for visually impaired or disabled groups that occasionally someone will have a certain level of dementia, but still enjoy the descriptions and dressing up, and often be prompted to remember and share interesting stories and memories. We’d like to offer more for groups like this, it seems to be something that local care homes would appreciate, but we do need some guidance to help when a group seems relatively unresponsive, or struggles to communicate. Unfortunately, we can’t afford expensive or distant training courses! We’re based in Haddington, East Lothian.

Many thanks for any advice.

Helen
