Age Coronation oral history co-ordinator (freelance, part-time)
The Science Museum
is developing a major, new permanent gallery - Information Age (IA) –
which will open in autumn 2014. IA tells the story of how information and communication
technologies have transformed our lives over the last 200 years.
As part of display around the
development of television there will be a focused story around the television
broadcast of the Coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953. This moment marked the
first time that more people in Britain
had watched an event on the television than listened to it on the radio. Our
ambition is give visitors a chance to hear first hand accounts of how watching
the Coronation on the television affected viewers.
In order to achieve this, the Science Museum is looking for a co-ordinator to
identify interviewees (ideally of different ages and backgrounds) and to carry
out interviews with a range of people who watched the Coronation on the
television in 1953.
