Thanks Lauren.

That’s ruined my plans as I was planning to offer ear plugs to the few candidate disturbed by excessive noise from our building works.  I’ve just been advised by our Estates Dept that major work, including drilling, will be taking place right underneath our Online room.  Seems I’ll just have to deal with complaining students!

Dear Ms McLachlan,

Thank you for your e-mail message.

A candidate can only where ear plugs for an examination where he/she has a medical condition which is known to the centre.  It is not acceptable for a group of candidates to be wearing ear plugs in an examination.

The candidate would be disabled as per the Equality Act 2010 and would thus have a substantial and long term impairment which has an adverse effect.

Prior awarding body approval is not required and Form 8 would not be required.  However, your SENCo would need to justify why a candidate was wearing ear plugs in an examination.  Your SENCo would need to confirm the candidate’s disability to the Inspector.

Yours sincerely

Nick Lait

Good afternoon,

Please can you confirm if candidates(groups of candidates specifically)  are able to use ear plugs for an examination without the need for medical evidence and/or form 8?

Regards,

Lauren
