With apologies for any cross-posting, this is a kind reminder that the LSE-Peking University Summer School is accepting applications for this year’s summer school courses to be held in Beijing in August 2014. This is a two week programme run by LSE in partnership with the University of Peking, with courses to learn about social sciences issues relevant to China and Asia today. Eighteen diverse courses are available, for more information and to apply online please go to
http://www.lse.ac.uk/study/summerSchools/LSEPKUProgramme/Home.aspx.
Also, I’d like to draw your kind attention to an urban course, Urban Asia and China (URL:
http://www.lse.ac.uk/study/summerSchools/LSEPKUProgramme/courses/gy201.aspx), which explores the characteristics of urban development and the place-specificities of urban growth strategies in the cities of East and Southeast Asia. Thematic topics include speculative urbanism, politics of urban (re-)development, gentrification, cities of spectacle and mega-events, governance, migration and the right to the city.
The course will benefit from the geographical advantage of taking place in Beijing and make use a number of China case studies to examine the differences as well as similarities of urban development between Chinese and other Asian cities
Please feel free to kindly share the programme information with your colleagues and students.
Many thanks for your kind attention.
With all best wishes,
Hyun
