The 10th Anniversary of the China Independent Film Festival UK Celebration (Free Admission, Advance Booking Required!)<http://ciffuk10.weebly.com/booking.html>
12-15 May Newcastle University Culture Lab: Space 4/5, Northern Stage: Stage 3

We are pleased to announce the 10th anniversary celebration of the China Independent Film Festival (CIFF) which will take place in Newcastle from 12-15 May 2014. CIFF is one of the longest-running indie film festivals in China and has been cited as ‘the most important independent film festival in China’.

We are delighted to welcome Tibet’s leading filmmaker, Pema Tseden, whose film Old Dog (2011) will open the festival along with Fen Yan, one of China’s most important contemporary female documentarians. She will be presenting her award-winning documentary Bing’Ai (2007) which recounts the controversial Three Gorges Dam project through a local female farmer’s seven-year struggle.

The four-day event in Newcastle also features retrospective screenings of CIFF award-winning films<http://ciffuk10.weebly.com/screenings.html>, an archival exhibition on the history of the CIFF<http://ciffuk10.weebly.com/exhibition.html>, a workshop ' Film Festival in Focus' <http://ciffuk10.weebly.com/workshop.html> which brings together the directors of CIFF and the Edinburgh International Film Festival, as well as a group of important scholars in the field. Audiences will have the opportunity to meet with directors and there will be a number of talks on Chinese indie films from reputed scholars, filmmakers and curators. The audience will enjoy a celebratory festival atmosphere and have the chance to see the most exciting collection of contemporary Chinese independent documentaries, fictions and animations. All screenings, exhibition, workshop and talks are open to the public with free admission. Advanced booking is required.
