Dear colleagues,

Some of you may be interested in the following event on 30 April:

University of Leeds China Forum - China's Aid and Soft Power in Africa: The Case of Education and Training

Wednesday 30th April sees the second University of Leeds China Forum hosted by the Business Confucius Institute and White Rose East Asian Centre, which this time around features keynote speaker Professor Kenneth King who will be discussing the educational aspect of China`s soft power in Africa, in line with his publication 'China's Aid and Soft Power in Africa'.

China's involvement in Africa for over 60 years has been based on the mutually beneficial notion in South-South cooperation. However, little focus has been to the critical role of China's support for training and human resource development for Africans in China, and within Africa itself. Professor King's book presents hard evidence from Egypt, Cameroon, Ethiopia, South Africa and Kenya of the dramatic growth of China's soft power and increasing impact in capacity building, and of the implications of this for Africa, China and the world.

The forum is free to attend and open to any and all interested in China-Africa relations. The talk will subsequently be followed by a general discussion.
