Dear all,
In addition to the finds I already mailed yesterday, Henk van Haaster (BIAX Consult) informed me that in a report from 2013 (not yet included in RADAR) for 's-Hertogenbosch in the southern part of the Netherlands, a sample dated 1350-1375 has yielded both some aril fragments as well as the black outermost layer of the seed (which is already removed usually in the nutmegs that are sold nowadays) were found. The reference is:

Dear all,
For the IWGP meeting in 2007 in Girona, I made a poster with remarkable medieval archaeobotanical finds in the Netherlands. Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) was included because of the find in one ship wreck (Burgzand, but another wreck than the published coffee ship BZN-4). It concerns the nutmeg, not the aril/mace. At that time, the parallel finds I could trace in the overviews of archaeobotanical literature published by Kroll and Schultze-Motel were:
None in the Netherlands, Dickson identified mace, the fleshy pericarp of Myristica from Scotland (Paisley Abbey, 15th century AD). Nutmeg is known from medieval Soutra (Scotland, Moffett 1992). Bratislava (Slovakia), 15th – early 16th century AD (Hajnalova 1985). Beroun (Czech republic), early 14th century AD (Čuliková 1994). Further finds of Myristica from Elblag (Poland), 13th century AD (Latalowa et al. 1998)
Since then, I am not aware of any new Dutch finds, I hope this helps a bit…

Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone had any records of nutmeg from the British Isles/Europe? We've just recorded some from a London cesspit dating from the late 18th century. Any references would be greatly appreciated!
