Position Title: Chair in Statistics

Duties & Responsibilities: 
To engage in research work. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the scholarship and intellectual life of the School by conducting and publishing research which will enhance the School’s high reputation as a research-led teaching institution. He or She will provide academic leadership within area of research expertise and offer mentoring for junior colleagues as required. To engage in teaching and to give such lectures, conduct such classes and undertake such other duties, including examination work, as may be prescribed by the Director. The range of teaching and examining duties may change from time to time. To manage as appropriate any grants which are secured, including the recruitment and management of any additional research staff required to fulfil the contracts, organising conferences, establishing contacts with the wider academic community, and disseminating knowledge through public activities which further enhance the scholarly reputation of the School. To accept responsibility within the School including departmental administrative responsibilities and participation in aspects of School governance by serving on School committees. To act as personal tutor to students allocated by the Head of the Department. To select and supervise MSc and PhD students as appropriate. To undertake the role of Head of Department/Institute at such time in the future as is consistent with the Department/Institute’s succession and leadership plans. The appointment will be subject to the statutes and regulations of the University of London and the School. The appointment will be subject to the Terms and Conditions of Appointment applying to Professors and Readers.

Position Qualifications: 
The successful candidate will have strong leadership qualities and an internationally leading research record. He or she will have an excellent publications record and proven track record in securing research funding. Extensive experience teaching undergraduates and postgraduates across a range of subjects within the field of statistics is essential. Candidates should also hold a good honours degree and a doctorate (or equivalent) in Statistics or a closely related discipline.

Salary Range: 
Salaries are determined by the Director, however the professorial salary scale starts from £64,550 pa inclusive (pay award pending).
