This one day mini conference (taking place on the 4th June in London) has been organised by the Third Party Working Group of the Higher Education Strategic Planners Association. HESPA works closely with HESA and a particular area of collaboration focuses on how data provided through statutory returns is accessed and used by third parties, such as the media and comparison websites.

The programme will include input from League Table Compilers (Complete University Guide, Times & Sunday Times and the Guardian) who will discuss their aims and methodologies, plus speakers from HESA and HEFCE, who will speak about the current policy context and their roles in sharing information about higher education, and the NUS, who will provide the student perspective. Breakout sessions will examine how League Tables become KPIs and the subsequent impacts on institutional behaviour, as well as exploring the role of Planners in all this. The day will conclude with a Panel session which will give the audience a final opportunity to ask questions.

The event will be of particular interest to those working in University planning offices and others interested in league tables (and other ratings systems), as well as those concerned with the availability of accurate and useful information to people considering a course of study within higher education.

The full programme will be available soon. Places are expected to go quickly so early booking is recommended. To book, please visit: https://hespaleaguetableeventjune2014.eventbrite.co.uk . Places cost £150 per person and payment is by card or paypal only at the time of booking (i.e. invoices cannot be issued).

Please note: this event is open for any staff of institutions who have subscribed to HESPA - there is no limit to the number of places that can be booked by a member institution.

If your institution is not yet a HESPA member, information on the benefits of membership can be found via the same link, along with details of how to subscribe.

I look forward to seeing you there!

Sally Turnbull, Chair, Third Party Working Group
