For those of you that are interested, we are running the first public trial of a non-organisation specific augmented reality mobile app at The Lightbox<http://www.thelightbox.org.uk/events1/february2014/8feb20aprilrenoirinbritain>, Woking on Thursday 3rd April 2014.
visit-AR<http://visit-ar.org/> is being built as a low cost and easy to deploy mobile application that can bring augmented reality to any cultural organisation. Using image recognition, the app provides a multi-media guide running on the visitor's own smartphone (currently Android). So far we have built the mobile app and are trialling it with the public to assess the impact it may or may not have on the visitor's experience. The project is being led by the University of Surrey<http://www.surrey.ac.uk/computing/people/helen_treharne/> with Pervasive Intelligence building the app and back-end web infrastructure. Funding is from the EPSRC via the University of Surrey's Impact Acceleration Account<http://www.surrey.ac.uk/iaa>.
The public trial will take place in the Renoir in Britain<http://www.thelightbox.org.uk/events1/february2014/8feb20aprilrenoirinbritain> exhibition at The Lightbox from 10:30am to 5:00pm, entry is free and all are welcome. A second trial is planned for June at Watts Gallery<http://www.wattsgallery.org.uk/>.
