Music in Public Libraries Seminar

This event gives an opportunity for aspects of music provision, particularly relevant to the public library sector, to be discussed

Session 1
Report and Information session. Please bring news items to share – what’s happening in your music library or music section
Session 2
Music Performance sets and Interlending:-
Public Library music loans: law and practice - Tony Lynes
Making Music - members and music libraries: a relationship fraught... with fruitfulness - Barbara Eifler, Executive Director Making Music
Q&A chaired by Ros Edwards - Service Development Co-ordinator (Music) Manchester Libraries, Information and Archives
Seminar Break - Attendees invited to make use of the Fitzwilliam Cafe
Session 3
Music Library Strategies - group discussions chaired by Frances Metcalfe - Kent County Libraries
Topics could include
- strategies to protect and maintain music collections/music specialism in the light of local government budget cuts
- strategies to support music collections which no longer have specialist staff to manage them
- strategies to enable continued provision of recorded music in public libraries
- strategies to develop public libraries as places to experience live music
- Report back
Booking: Bookings for the Music in Public Libraries seminar are open so if you want to book a place please email Ellie Coady at [log in to unmask] The seminar is being held in conjunction with the IAML (UK & Irl) Annual Study Weekend and will take place on the afternoon prior to the ASW commencing. Why not use this as an opportunity to attend all or part of the ASW as you can save on travel expenses. If you work outside the public library sector but would still like to attend Music in Public Libraries seminar please contact me regarding capacity – priority will be given to those from the public library sector. Of course, you can book just for the Music in Public Libraries seminar if this is more suitable.
