European Commission reviewers told the 4C team that the project was making “excellent progress,” the highest achievement possible, at its first annual review which took place in Frankfurt at the Deutsche National Bibliothek (DNB) on Thursday 27th March. The reviewers went on to add that they were happy to approve all deliverables and praised all the work undertaken to date, particularly the project’s community building and communications activities. Project co-ordinator Neil Grindley from Jisc is delighted with the outcome of the meeting. “It's a really encouraging way to launch into the last 10 months of the project,” he says. ‘I’d like to thank all of the project’s supporters who have each contributed to this outstanding result. Well done everybody and a big thank you to the 4C team in Frankfurt.” The 4C Project’s vision is to create a better understanding of effective investments in digital curation through collaboration. As well as presenting reviewers with summaries of work to date, the project team outlined plans for the development of critical outputs for the final year, particularly the Curation Costs Exchange (CCEx), a Cost Concept Model, the Economic Sustainability Reference Model (ESRM) and the Roadmap. Each of which will become community resources to support this vision. “Lots of nice things were said about the work we are doing and the reviewers picked out a number of project deliverables that they were either impressed by or interested in,” Neil continues. “It was a really productive and positive meeting.’ A full report from the European Commission will be issued to the project team following the review, outlining their observations and recommendations.
