Tenure-track posts in Earth Observation, University of Leeds, UK

The School of Earth and Environment seeks to appoint two Academic Research Fellows to strengthen its research in Earth Observation of geohazards and the cryosphere.

Academic Research Fellowships are tenure-tracked positions, and provide an opportunity for researchers with outstanding potential to establish an independent academic career. Each fellowship lasts for five years with reduced teaching and administrative responsibilities, and there is an expectation that you will progress to an established academic post during this period. You will have an excellent research track record in Earth Observation of either geohazards (post 1) or the cryosphere (post 2), together with the vision and drive to develop a prestigious research portfolio.

Successful applicants will become members of either the Centre for the Observation and Modelling of Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Tectonics (COMET; http://comet.nerc.ac.uk) or the Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling (CPOM; http://www.cpom.org). COMET and CPOM are Earth Observation research centres of excellence based at the University of Leeds and funded by the UK Natural Environment Research Council.  As a member of either centre, you will have the opportunity to direct activities of scientific and technical support staff, and you will be expected to work closely with our investigators based at Leeds and at other UK Universities to enhance the performance, stature and profile of our research.

Closing date for applications is 31st March 2014

Salary will be on University Grade 8 (£37,012- £44,166 p.a. )

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Tim Wright, Director of COMET ([log in to unmask]) or Professor Andy Shepherd, Director of CPOM ([log in to unmask]).
