London Comedy Forum - Comics and Cartoons
Tuesday 1st April 2014, 18.30 - 20.30

Drama Studio 1, Institute of Education, 20 Bedford Way, London, WC1H 0AL

The next London Comedy Forum will look at the humour found in cartoons and comics, with three speakers from different disciplines talking about their research. Alongside these presentations there will be plenty of time for discussion between the panelists and questions from the audience, leading to what I'm sure will be a fascinating interdisciplinary dialogue.

Confirmed speakers:
Dieter Declercq (Film Studies, University Kent), who will be discussing his research into social criticism in The Simpsons and South Park.

Dr. Emma Weitkamp (Science Communication, UWE Bristol), who will be talking about her research into the use of comics as a tool in education, drawing on her work on ScienceComics

Pippa Gregory (History, University of Kent), who will be discussing her research on satirical cartoons from the First World War.

This event is free and unticketed.

The London Comedy Forum is an opportunity for researchers from a range of disciplines, including performers, philosophers, educational theorists, psychologists and sociologists, to meet and discuss their research on comedy. We hold a meeting every other month, generally an evening panel or one-day symposium, usually hosted by either the Institute of Education or Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. For more information about the forum please email [log in to unmask] or visit www.londoncomedyforum.com.

All the best,
Shaun May (Kent) and Ian Wilkie (IOE)
