Key picket times will be from 6-9am and their will be strike rallies both days from 12 noon at the main Russell Square campus (details below). Picket lines will be at Russell Square Campus, Thornhaugh Street, Russell Square, WC1H 0XG and Vernon Square Campus Vernon Square, Penton Rise, WC1X 9EW. UNISON members employed by ISS at SOAS, mainly migrant workers, have voted by 100% to take industrial action in their long-running dispute over terms and conditions. The strike will be held on 4 and 5 March. Employees of ISS at SOAS receive only statutory sick pay and the statutory minimum annual leave, while colleagues employed directly by SOAS receive contractual sick pay, 30 days annual leave and a defined benefits pension scheme. The cleaners and maintenance workers have been campaigning for many years to receive parity with in-house workers for sick pay, annual leave and pensions, but ISS has stated that it will not improve terms and conditions. The ISS workers have received strong support from their colleagues working for SOAS and from the students who understand how important the cleaners' work is and believe that they should be treated with parity.
