Archives Assistant (Graduate Trainee)
University Archives Old Bodleian Library
Grade 3: £17,678 - £20,374 per annum
Fixed-term for one year

There will be a vacancy in September 2014 for an Archives Assistant in the University Archives. The function of the Archives is to select, preserve and make available for administrative or research purposes the administrative records, dating from 1214, of the University and its departments. The appointment will be for a fixed term from 1 September 2014 to 5 September 2015.

The post will be based in the Bodleian Library but work will also be carried out at other sites within the University. Your duties will include answering enquiries, transferring documents from storage to reading room and back again, planning and configuring storage accommodation, sorting and listing documents, and assistance with the general administration of the Archives. The post is an excellent opportunity for someone wishing to gain experience before seeking a professional archive qualification.

You will have or expect to obtain in 2014 an honours degree and have previous experience of working within an archive or special collections service. An informed awareness of the work involved in archives administration and a genuine desire to develop skills in advance of taking a postgraduate qualification are essential.

Due to the nature of this post, candidates will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check as well as a financial background check. The possession of a criminal record or poor financial background will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.
