NIHR Research Methods Internship – Reference number MHCTR0007

The Leeds Institute of Clinical Trials Research (LICTR) at the University of Leeds is inviting applications for a summer internship of 2 months, funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), to allow one of the brightest undergraduates (from a course including a substantial mathematical or statistical component e.g. mathematics, statistics, economics or physics) to receive training and mentoring in statistical methodology for clinical trials.

The focus of the internship will be on the drafting of a manuscript for publication detailing a clinical trial protocol for a trial within the CTRU portfolio. This will give the intern an overview of the clinical trials process. Specifically, the project will include developing an understanding of both the clinical and methodological context of the trial, replicating sample size calculations, and contributing to the development of a manuscript for publication. In addition, there may be the opportunity to contribute to ongoing methodological research in the area of early phase trial design for complex interventions.

You will have completed you second year undergraduate degree (or third year of a 4-year degree) in a mathematical, statistical or quantitative related field with a strong interest in pursuing a career in health research. Applications will also be accepted from candidates who already hold an undergraduate degree in this area.

University Grade 4 (£17,678 – £20,374 pro rata)
