**********************************************************************Dear All
I recently purchased a bottle of Lucozade Guava which contains two images on the sleeve see attached image (not sure if attachments work on this mailing list!) One of the images is meant to be Glucose the sugar in the drink that quickly enters the athletes blood stream.
However on a closer look I realised there had been a mistake, and that the molecule is incorrectly drawn, the orientation of the Hydrogen (H) and Hydroxyl (OH) is the wrong way round on 'carbon number three'
This may appear a trivial point, but Lucozade clearly try and sell there product on it's scientific merits as evidenced by the products website (http://www.lucozadesport.com/lucozade-sport-vs-water/). What is interesting is that they focus heavily on the benefits of Lucozade Vs Water and allow users to download a PDF (http://www.lucozadesport.com/lucozade-sport-vs-water/) documents that uses words such as 'Independent Group of Researchers, Double Blind Trials, Independent Peer Reviewed Journals' but when you find the articles they quote all off them appear to be based on research funded by GalxoSmithKline (disclosed in the paper) whom up until 2013 manufactured Lucozade! I am not suggesting unethical practice in the papers, but one does wonder if other articles have contradictory findings?
I did write to Lucozade and they have responded as below
Re: Case Number:759:XXXX
Dear Dr Turner,
Thank you for your email with regards to our Lucozade products. I apologise for the delay in responding.
We are always pleased to receive feedback from our consumers, especially when they send us their comments about our products, ingredients or their packaging.
Please rest assured that your comments have been well noted and have been passed onto our Drinks Marketing Department for their information.
Lastly, thank you for bringing this matter to our attention and I agree that the representation we have used does not follow the standard illustration. However we can reassure you that the sugars used in the product are from glucose syrup.
I hope this information is of help to you.
Kind regards,
Awa
Can send the images to those interested if the attachements do not work!

The University of Westminster Broad Vision programme, which facilitates cross-disciplinary learning opportunities is worth a look. Science students learn from art students and vis versa. It’s a novel approach, and their results are impressive.

Venture Thinking has been working on digital media projects and rap projects inspired by science. Students from East London have created an I book and students in the Northwest of England are creating art and design installations working alongside scientists.
