Design Star Research Studentships

The University of Brighton is pleased to invite applications to its PhD programmes in design research. The University’s Faculty of Arts offers Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) studentships in the cross-university doctoral training centre Design Star.

We are looking to recruit motivated and engaged doctoral researchers with outstanding academic or professional backgrounds (from any disciplinary area) and research potential, with a strong interest in exploring how design can make a difference to contemporary social concerns, knowledge production and creative practices.

Design Star offers 6 studentships (plus an additional 6), to commence a programme of postgraduate study in October 2014. Awards include a stipend (GBP 13,726 per annum tax free) and fee waiver (GBP 3,900 per annum).  Full- and Part-time study options are available. This requires an approach to research training that places diversity and interdisciplinarity at its core. Design Star offers a unique opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary research in design, supported by a rich and varied network of design research expertise and organisational partners.  The Design Star centre for doctoral training brings together leading design departments at the University of Brighton; Goldsmiths, University of London; Loughborough University; The Open University; and the University of Reading.
