As you know we have a no advertising policy for commercial organisations. We have in the past agreed to allow non-commercial, not for profit courses and study days to highlight their courses on JISC.

There are some evidence based excellent study days at the Royal Brompton run by Prof Cullinan’s team. A number of OH practitioners and students have indicated that these are well priced and useful and therefore I am posting this on behalf of Paul’s secretary, Magda.

1.      Lung Function Testing in the Workplace – Introductory Level

Course description... For those embarking on spirometry in the workplace, this course covers: an introduction to respiratory physiology; (hands on) practicalities of spirometry; simple interpretation of results; discussion of respiratory surveillance in the workplace for short- and long-latency respiratory diseases; quality control.
Suitable for.............. Occupational Health professionals (including Occupational Health technicians) who have limited (or no) experience of spirometry. This event is not thought suitable for Physicians.
Attendance certificate - Those who complete the course are given an attendance certificate.
NB: we can only accommodate 12 delegates each time at this event. It fills very quickly, and we consider availability in order of enquiry, so please enquire in good time if you wish to attend. No online booking link for this event.

2.      Introductory Medical Statistics (two day course)

Brief description....... Designed to introduce doctors, nurses, clinical research fellows and postgraduate students (anyone who uses statistics in their work or research) to statistical concepts including: epidemiological study design; identifying and describing different data types; selection of appropriate statistical tests (two and three group scenarios); calculation of sample size for basic study designs; understanding the principles behind various forms of regression analysis, including survival analysis.
Accreditation........... 12 non-clinical, external CPD points to be sought

Dates....................... Tuesday 10 June; Tuesday 25 November

Course description... The day includes discussion of optimal spirometry in the workplace: interpretation, abnormalities, longitudinal changes, individual variation and role in health surveillance; use in pre-placement screening/fitness to work; its use and utility.
Suitable for.............. All Occupational Health professionals with a particular interest in (surveillance) spirometry, and its use in the workplace.
Accreditation........... FOM accreditation to be sought.
Places are limited, in order to encourage discussion and delegate participation.
NB: This is not a practical spirometry course; a working knowledge of practical spirometry is assumed.

4.      Occupational Lung Disease – Keeping Up to Date
Date........................ Tuesday 23 September 2014
Registration fee....... £150 including handout, lunch and refreshments.

Brief description....... A one day meeting to focus on current and emerging issues in occupational lung disease. The day will cover current issues in epidemiology, diagnosis, management and prognosis – with ample opportunity for discussion.
Suitable for.............. Healthcare specialists (physicians and experienced nurses) in occupational and respiratory medicine.
FOM accreditation to be sought.

Imperial College Cancellation Policy and Transferral Policy
(Please read carefully)

-         For written cancellations received up to two weeks prior to the commencement of the course, 50% of the course fee will be refunded. Thereafter, no refunds can be made, however substitute delegates are welcome at no extra charge. If you (or your substitute) are unable to attend after the two weeks notice period, it may be possible to transfer to the next course (subject to the course running). You will be required to pay a £50 administration charge, plus any additional course fees.

-         If the course organiser cancels the course due to low attendance, or for any other reason, delegates will be reimbursed in full or registered for the next available course, should they wish.

-         The organisers reserve the right to alter the programme without notice and to refuse any registration.

-         IT IS REGRETTED THAT PLACES ON THIS COURSE CANNOT BE CONFIRMED WITHOUT PRIOR PAYMENT.

-         Please do not make any travel arrangements until written booking confirmation is received.
