I used an ethnographic approach in my PhD, which looked at the emotion work of midwives in hospital and community settings, so my thesis might be interesting for you to read. It was entitled Emotion Work in Midwifery, University of Wales Swansea2002, and should be available via Swansea University Library. Other midwifery /maternity ethnographies that spring to mind are those of Denis Walsh, Fiona Dykes, Juliet Rayment - and there is the classic ethnography by Mavis Kirkham of interactions between midwives and women on labour ward in the late 1970s/early 1980s. And there are certainly others .....
