Event details:

This one-day symposium will explore a variety of methods, approaches and practices for teaching screenwriting to students across the education sector, from A Level to Masters. A line-up of educators, writers and industry professionals will present pedagogical insights and practical tools designed to strengthen the use of creativity, innovation and professional practice across screenwriting curricula.

Through engagement with academics, practitioner-academics and industry professionals, delegates will develop the following knowledge and skills:

- an understanding of the current ‘state of play’ in screenwriting pedagogy, including histories, current research and emerging practices

- an awareness of how digital technology has affected screenwriting teaching, both in terms of what is being taught (content) and how it is being taught (context)

- an insight into the role of the practitioner-academic, and how one can maintain both an academic and a professional career

- a deepened sense of what students want, what students need, and how frictions from these two things can be handled

- practical tools and methods for teaching the craft of screenwriting in creative and innovative ways

- advice on how students can be prepared for both professional and academic environments
