Dr Luca Marcozzi (University of Roma Tre)

Petrarch as Reader

Venue: RHUL, WIN102 - 4.00-6.00 pm

The paper will look at the various strategies of self-interpretation actuated by Francesco Petrarca in his works. After a brief outline of Petrarch's relationships with his masters and authors, the paper will explore his activity as both commentator of the classics and autoexegete.

Luca Marcozzi teaches Italian literature at the University of Roma Tre. He is the author of many important studies on Petrarch, such as La biblioteca di Febo: mitologia e allegoria in Petrarca (Florence: Cesati, 2002); Petrarca platonico (Rome: Aracne, 2004 and 2011); Bibliografia petrarchesca 1989-2003 (Florence: Olschki, 2005). His research interests span from the Middle Ages, with particular focus on the Italian 'three crowns', to Bembo, the Risorgimento and contemporary literature. He has also edited G. Faerno, Le favole (Roma: Salerno Editrice, 2005), and (with C. Ranieri e G. Izzi) Nello specchio del mito. Riflessi di una tradizione (Florence: Cesati, 2011). He has translated and introduced A. Morgan, Dante e l'aldil? medievale (Roma: Salerno Editrice, 2012).
