geology at the Assistant Professor level. The position is a 9-month tenure-track appointment with a
preferred start date of January 2015. Primary responsibilities include (1) teaching undergraduate through
advanced graduate courses in structural geology and related fields, and participating in the summer field
course, (2) building a strong externally funded research and graduate teaching program, (3) advising and
mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, (4) contributing to department, university, and
national/international service and outreach. Reflecting departmental and institutional values, candidates
are expected to have the ability to advance the Department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Requirements are: (1) a Ph.D. in geology or related discipline, (2) a strong research record and
future potential in structural geology, and (3) evidence of research and teaching interests that complement
and enhance existing departmental strengths, and that can catalyze new interdisciplinary directions in the
future. Preference will be given to applicants with: 1) an interest in research that draws on field
observations, 2) an interest in geoeducation and potential for excellence in teaching, including field-based
learning, 3) a good publication record and future publication potential, 4) the ability to obtain and manage
external research funding, and 5) ability to establish strong research and graduate teaching programs.
The Department of Geosciences offers B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. In keeping with the mission
of a Land Grant University, the program is known for its strength in field-based research, commitment to
teaching, outreach to solve resource management problems, and basic research programs in
sedimentology/stratigraphy, petrology/geochemistry, tectonics, hydrogeology/geomorphology, petroleum
geology, economic geology, seismology/geophysics, and geodynamics. The department maintains state
of the art UNIX and PC computational facilities, geophysical facilities that include near-surface seismic,
resistivity, and ground penetrating radar systems, LIDAR, and a Scintrex CG5 gravimeter, and hosts a
Re-Os TIMS facility. Other instrumentation available on campus includes a JEOL JSM-6500F SEM, a
JEOL JSM2100F TEM, a PerkinElmer Elan DRC II ICP-MS, an ICP-AE, an XRD, and a light element
stable isotope facility.
Our location in northern Colorado offers excellent local and regional opportunities for field-based
research and teaching in the Rocky Mountains and the Colorado High Plains. Numerous opportunities
exist for multi-institutional collaboration given our proximity to other research universities, the USGS,
EPA, other state and federal agencies, and strong regional environmental, petroleum, and mineral
industries. Fort Collins is a mid-size city with a high quality of life, a pleasant climate, good schools, and
spectacular opportunities for outdoor recreation. It is often ranked as one of the top five locations to live
in the U.S. Proximity to Denver provides ready access to a major metropolitan area and a major
international airport.
