2 PhD Student Positions in Sociology at the University of Bremen
The University of Bremen, a mid-sized university with approximately 250 professorships and 19,000 students, offers a broad range of disciplines and competes internationally in top-level research. With an

The Centre for Social Policy Research (ZeS) jointly with the Centre for transnational studies (ZenTra) at the
University of Bremen is seeking to hire up to
 
2 PhD Students (0.65 position) A41/14
 
for the junior research group “Winners of globalization? A study on the emergence of a transnational elite in Europe”. The research group investigates the social and spatial mobility patterns of highly qualified European immigrants in Germany. Besides career trajectories and perspectives, the research group studies transnational practices and identities among highly skilled European immigrants. For this purpose, a large- scale standardized survey and in-depth qualitative interviews of highly qualified immigrants from Southern Europe in Germany will be carried out. The successful candidates are expected to participate in the quantitative and qualitative data collection and write their PhD with the gathered data. Moreover, they will have a teaching load of 2 hours per week.
 
Necessary requirements:
     Very good English language competency (working language of the project team)
     Master (or equivalent) in sociology or related disciplines
     Sound knowledge of quantitative or qualitative social science methods
     Knowledge in at least one of the following fields:
o sociology of social inequality
o sociology of immigration
o sociology of the European Union
o sociology of transnationalism
 
Preferably:
     Very good language competency in German and in one of the following languages: Italian, Spanish, Greek
 
The employment shall be on terms specified in the German Salary Standard 13 TV-L (65% position). The positions are to be filled as soon as possible and are funded until the 31st of October 2017. The positions are settled in the Department 8 of the University of Bremen.
