The Faculty of Political and Social Sciences is seeking to fill the following full-time vacancy in the Department of Sociology:
Tenured academic staff in the field of Social Work
Job description
- You will be assigned courses in the domain of social sciences theories and practices of social work in an urban and multicultural society, as well as in research methods. You will have
lecturing duties in the bridging as well as the master programme in Social Work. You will function as supervisor or assessor of around 20 master theses a year. Lecturing in combination with supervising master theses represents a total of 24 ECTS-credits.
- You will develop social scientific research in the domain of social work, social support and the social sector in general. You will acquire and manage external funding and enhance the
nexus teaching/researching.
- You publish in international peer-reviewed academic journals and/or books of high quality.
You participate in national and international scientific conferences.
- In cooperation with the departments of Social Work of the Artesis Plantijn and Karel de Grote University Colleges, AUHA partners of the master programme, you are responsible
for the coordination and the everyday management of the programme. The main challenges for the coming period include tutoring of students in the bridge year and of students who combine studying and a (full-time) job, the internationalization of the programme,
ensuring the broad academic scope of the programme and the critical reflection on theory and practice of social work.
- You will be expected to participate in academic councils and commissions as a representative of your faculty, department and section.
- You will offer scientific services in the broad field of social work and its constituting organizations.
- You are capable of teaching in Dutch. The successful foreign applicant will be expected to teach in Dutch after a transition period of three years.
Profile and requirements
- You hold a PhD with a doctoral thesis in social sciences, sociology, social work or a related scientific discipline.
- The focus in your teaching corresponds to the views on education of
the university.
- Your research qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s
policy.
- You have leadership skills or the potential to develop them.
- You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative.
- You are willing to learn Dutch (CEFR-level B2) within the legally defined term; theUniversiteit Antwerpen provides support.
- You are prepared to prove your knowledge of the English language (CEFR-level C1) according to your teaching assignment; the Universiteit Antwerpen provides support.
We offer
- Either: a full-time tenure track position as a lecturer (assistant professor) for five years. After five years, this position will result in a permanent position as a senior lecturer (associate
professor) if the performance is assessed favourably on the basis of previously fixed and publicly announced evaluation criteria.
- Or: a full-time position as a senior lecturer (associate professor) or higher. In the case of a first appointment as lecturer or higher, the university board may proceed to a temporary
appointment for a period not exceeding three years. This position will lead to a permanent appointment if the performance is assessed favourably. In case of earlier experience as a lecturer or higher, you may be offered a permanent position.
- The date of appointment will be October 1st, 2014.
- A gross monthly salary ranging from € 4 009,52 to € 5 910,19 (lecturer/assistant professor) and from € 4 591,43 to € 7 213,07 (senior lecturer/associate professor).
