Hi
We're an ASD specialist support organisation and our experience is that Universities vary with this, but more and more they are recognising that Autism / Asperger mentoring and study skills support is a specialist area. Some Universities have set up their own ASD specialist mentor provision but in our experience, these are few and far between. Many Universities have an ASD specialist Disability Advisor and then just use their generic mentors. This can be a bit 'hit and miss' as it depends the individual skills of the DSA and the mentor.

We've assisted some Universities to set up their own ASD mentoring team and would be happy to talk off list about this if you'd like to.
Best wishes
Christine

Subject: Mentoring for students with ASD

Hello all!

Just wondering how different institutions provide DSA recommended mentoring support for students on the Autistic Spectrum!

Do people employ a specific member of staff to do this or is it done through free-lance tutors (as often done with Study Skills support?)

With best wishes
