Surely it only verifies the email to the extent that it wants to confirm you want them to fax your GP?

Equally, you could send a letter, or fax, or even an email direct to your GP purporting to be someone else, and opting out of care.data, and if the GP failed to verify that this was from the patient the same scary outcome could emerge. Would that be the communication provider's responsibility?

I think Lynn pointed out earlier that FaxYourGP could lead to GPs having to expend further resources to verify ID, and I can appreciate that. But if NHSE/DoH themselves offered an online opt-out, then no one would have had to code their own site to enable people to do so.

Playing the devil's advocate here but, but I strongly suspect a GP does not have email address records to verify against, so if I was opting out on behalf of someone else I could verify my email on FaxYourGP.com using an email I had created without anyone knowing it wasn't the actual patients email address. Additionally, could this 'false' email address be submitted to said GP as factual and actual records by updated....scary

"We will include your personal data in an email we send to you confirming that you want us to fax your GP practice"

Looks like a simple email verification process

Hi Chris
Now I'm even more confused. What do you mean FaxMyGP does a check on my email to see if it's me? How do they know if [log in to unmask] is my mum or not when I've sent it in for her cos I've set an email up for her? How can anyone check if my email is me? You can't see who sent it and most email ddresses give no indication of who they may be e.g. [log in to unmask] (that could clearly be any of us) Am I missing something? Sorry, it's Friday and it's been a long week!
