FaxYourGP do a check on your email to confirm you are who you are although I am sure I could, with a little digging, set up an account as Jeremy Hunt and opt myself out.
 
Their website states that they will keep your details for 4 weeks and they may be on a backup tape for an extra week. Should they be notified with ICO as they are processing personal data?

I know my mother's details, I know who her GP is. I can opt her out right now. She would never know. Acceptable? Nope.

Whilst faxmyGP was in theory a good idea and shows the NHS potentialy how easy it was, there needs to be that extra verfication  that it's from who it say it is for GPs to accept it imo. Means Drs will all now have to verify the accuracy of the data = extra workload.
