Subject: International Workshop Seed Identification at Naktuinbouw

Dear members of the Plant Atlas mailing list,

Your attention please for this opportunity:

International Workshop Seed Identification at Naktuinbouw

Join the International Workshop Seed Identification at Naktuinbouw, the Netherlands, 24, 25 and 26 March 2014.

How do you tell the difference between the seeds of 693 different species from 105 plant families? The nine major families representing two thirds of the number of plant species are extensively covered in the Workshop Seed Identification on March 24-26, 2014 at Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, the Netherlands. Participate and register now!

The workshop

The Workshop Seed Identification is organised by Naktuinbouw in close cooperation with the University of Groningen and NAK. The course aims at improving the identification of seeds found as impurities in seed samples.

A first major step in seed identification is recognising the plant family, making it possible to efficiently consult reference collections and seed atlases for a final identification. In this workshop, those families will be introduced that represent the majority of the seeds on the ISTA list of stabilized plant names.

This workshop will include lectures and practical work. Practical work will focus on identifying representative seeds from nine families. The Digital Seed Atlas of the Netherlands (book and website) will be introduced and available for consultation.

A great opportunity

This workshop will be led by Prof.dr. René Cappers and Dr. Renée Bekker, the authors of the Digital Seed Atlas of the Netherlands. It is a great opportunity for seed analysts and other professionals involved in seed purity analysis and / or seed identification!

To participate, no particular knowledge of seed identification is required.

During the workshop all volumes of the Plant Atlas Project will be available at a discount price.
