We at Kingston University have had a Central Fund for supporting disabled staff for almost three years. The budget is managed by us in the EDI Unit and is available to all Academic and Professional staff in conjunction with support from Access to Work. I have given our responses to your questions below.

Subject: Central Budgets for supporting Reasonable Adjustments for Staff
Dear Colleagues,
I would be interested in hearing from those of you who may have central budgets for supporting disabled staff who need reasonable adjustments. Currently RA within each area are paid for by schools or service areas, some of which have very modest budgets. They are also supplemented by Access to work funding where ever possible. Specific questions.
-How was your budget set up? In consultation with HR and central finance and approved at Executive level
- How much is it? £13,000 this year but was £10,000
- Who manages it? EDI Unit
- Is it available to all schools and departments? Yes
- Are there any issues with having a central budget? Not so far
