Dear Alice,

In these days I read on the newspaper  about the discovery of the remains of giraffe in Pompeii.

See: http://www.ibtimes.com/ancient-pompeii-diet-consisted-giraffe-flamingo-sea-urchin-other-exotic-delicacies-1526776

There is also an interesting paper of Thierry Buquet about “La belle captive. La girafe dans les ménageries princičres au Moyen Age”. You can find it on Academia.edu.

Best wishes

Jacopo

Oggetto: [ZOOARCH] Giraffe finds from Roman, Late Antique and medieval sites

Hello!

A colleague of mine is writing a book on medieval giraffes based mainly on textual and image sources. However, he would be very interested to know about giraffe bone finds from Roman, Late Antique or medieval archaeological sites. If anyone knows about such finds could you please send me references or information with some context provided? I can then send them on.

Best,

Alice
