Dear UTSG colleagues,

Myself and Dr. Anil Namdeo from Newcastle University are proposing a themed issue for the journal of Research in Transportation Business and Management on 'Innovations in Technologies for Sustainable Transport' to be published in 2015. The aims and scope of this themed issue are given below and 200 word abstracts are invited to be submitted to [log in to unmask] by 28th February, 2014.

Aims and scope of the themed issue

This special issue will focus on innovations in technologies for sustainable transport. Over the years, technology has played an ever-increasing role in the movement of people and freight in a safe and efficient manner. The emphasis is shifting now towards developing and applying new technologies to address the issues of congestion, environmental degradation and social inclusion in pursuit of more sustainable transport and travel practices. Our reliance on technology is likely to increase due to the development of fast and reliable communication systems. This will make travellers, and the environment in which they operate, more inter-connected. Papers, which have a strong emphasis on transportation business and management, and address one or more of the general issues highlighted below, are invited to contribute to this special issue. The main topics of specific interest which cover the scope of this issue are:

 *    Passenger information
 * Smart ticketing and Payment Methods
 * Smart mobility and Digital interventions
 * Alternative fuel technology (e.g. electric and hybrid vehicles; bio-fuels)
 * Air quality information for vulnerable travellers
 * Smart driving assistance (e.g. automated driving navigation; driving style; parking; apps)
 * Tools for managing traffic in extreme conditions (e.g. flooding; earthquakes; terrorist attacks)
 *    Traveller safety

Best wishes,
