It shouldn't really matter, and it's hard to say which would be "better". I use CentOS (free analog of RHEL). I noticed on the FSL list it was suggested you use Debian; I haven't used Debian but I doubt you would have problems running Matlab/SPM on it.

Dear SPM experts,

We're currently establishing a neuroimaging lab and will have a server in our lab. To install Spm and related tools, does anyone suggest which distro of Linux is better ? We are considering Red Hat, Ubuntu or SUSE. Any difference among them? Thanks in advance.
