BioMed Central’s dynamic communications department currently has a vacancy for a PR Assistant within the team, which is responsible for both internal and external communications, social media and multi media. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about all aspects of science publishing PR and communications, and to develop your skills in these areas, all within a busy and successful company.

Main Duties

• Drafting copy for blogs and press releases
• Researching and maintaining media lists
• Uploading content to press release syndication service
• Collating and analysing media coverage
• Developing and updating specific website content
• Supporting the media officers and head of communications with specific projects
• Supporting the PR team with general administrative tasks
• Liaising with authors, press officers, journalists by email and phone
• Management of Gulliver and OADW blogs and OADW newsletter
• Taking minutes at regular meetings

Person Specification

Essential

• Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
• Knowledge and passion for science communications
• Strong writing, editing and proofing skills
• A strong understanding and proven exposure of social media and PR
• Ability to multi-task and highly detail orientated
• Proven examples of exceptional organisational skills
• Solid knowledge of MSOffice applications
• A good telephone manner and customer service skills

Desirable

• Experience working in-house or in a PR agency (or equivalent)
