I clearly am going to need a fancy browser to look at a lot of these things. While I am happy to try this particular one, I´ve run across other reconstructions that also needed plug-ins or special browsers. My questions for the technologically literate on the list: 1) are such plug-ins / browsers going to be unique to each site, or is there a generic 3-D browser that is likely to work (and to stay viable for the next few years)? 2) How much memory do these things require? I need to have adequate memory both in my own laptop and in the classroom computer. I´m due for an upgrade from my institution - how much memory am I likely to need to be able to cope with the latest technology (and for that which may soon be appearing?) It's one of several digital reconstructions from the Open Virtual Worlds group at the University of St. Andrews. For the full experience you must create an account on their server and have installed a virtual-world browser. Do list members know of any such? Of course I'm aware of the newly discovered wall paintings in Wales, but I'd love to be able to take my students on a "virtual tour" of a historic church (the fact that it may have been modified in the course of time is irrelevant, I'd like to be able to show how it is as a start to thinking about how it "was").
