Ushaw Cataloguer, Rare Books

Grade 5: £20,374 - £23,585

 

We are seeking a qualified rare book cataloguer to continue the retrospective online cataloguing of the books held in the former Roman Catholic seminary of Ushaw College in Durham, on a fixed-term contract until 30th November 2014.  The books date from the 15th-20th century.  The cataloguer must work to a high standard of accuracy to MARC and DCRM(B) standards.  The post holder will be based at Ushaw College but will work under the supervision of a rare book cataloguer from Durham University Library and Heritage Collections.

 

Applicants should be educated to degree level (or equivalent) with a professional qualification in library and information studies.  They will have proficiency in MARC book cataloguing and subject indexing, knowledge and experience of book cataloguing standards, along with good communication skills (both written and verbal), and good IT competence and the ability to master new IT applications quickly.
