Shouldn't that be 'an even greater pedantry than usual'?  Ted was a lovely man, unassuming but determined.  I still have on my shelves the 1946 Manual by Capt. E.J.S. Parsons, R.E.: one can 'see' the mind behind it, which is more than can be said for GSGS 5307.

Nick,. Chris,

Many thanks: I am compiling an index where the presence of various 'titled' figures means a greater pedantry in these matters than usual.

… and his father was Samuel, so it’s likely to have been Edward John Samuel Parsons!

Could someone 'out there' please give the the first names, or at any rate the principal one, for EJS Parsons, of Bodleian Library and cataloguing system fame? (The search engine on my computer seems much more interested in Parson Woodforde!)

Thanks.

Richard Oliver
