Research Associate (post-doctoral) in Geophysics Description: The Petroleum Geosciences Department at The Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi is seeking to hire a highly qualified post-doctoral researcher to work on a research project entitled ‘A deep seismic study of the UAE-Oman mountain belt’. This is a collaborative 3-year project between The Petroleum Institute and the University of Oxford. The project is funded by the ADNOC-PI Research Centre. The post-doctoral researcher will be based at the Petroleum Institute, but will spend some time at the University of Oxford. The successful candidate will be part of a team to carry out the first integrated onshore-offshore seismic experiment to utilize passive and active seismic techniques to determine the P-wave velocity structure of the crust and upper mantle of the UAE-Oman orogenic belt and its flanking foreland basin and rifted margin. The candidate will be expected to play a leading role in the acquisition processing and interpretation of the seismic data, which will involve land recording stations and a research vessel equipped with a large-volume airgun source, a multichannel streamer and ocean bottom seismometers. Job Requirement: Qualification: Minimum Ph.D. in geophysics or closely related field The candidate must have expertise in wide-angle (refraction) and reflection seismic data acquisition, processing and modelling. A good research publication track record is required.
