Research Associate (post-doctoral) in Geophysics

Description: The Petroleum Geosciences Department at The Petroleum
Institute in Abu Dhabi is seeking to hire a highly qualified post-doctoral
researcher to work on a research project entitled ‘A deep seismic
study of the UAE-Oman mountain belt’. This is a collaborative 3-year
project between The Petroleum Institute and the University of Oxford.
The project is funded by the ADNOC-PI Research Centre. The post-doctoral
researcher will be based at the Petroleum Institute, but will spend
some time at the University of Oxford.
The successful candidate will be part of a team to carry out the
first integrated onshore-offshore seismic experiment to utilize passive
and active seismic techniques to determine the P-wave velocity structure
of the crust and upper mantle of the UAE-Oman orogenic belt and its
flanking foreland basin and rifted margin. The candidate will be expected
to play a leading role in the acquisition processing and interpretation
of the seismic data, which will involve land recording stations and a
research vessel equipped with a large-volume airgun source, a multichannel
streamer and ocean bottom seismometers.

Job Requirement:
Qualification:  Minimum Ph.D. in geophysics or closely related field
The candidate must have expertise in wide-angle (refraction) and reflection
seismic data acquisition, processing and modelling.
A good research publication track record is required.

Salary/Benefits: Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications
and experience, with an excellent benefits package, including housing and
furniture allowance, educational allowance for dependent children, annual
airfare allowance, and medical care. The United Arab Emirates levy no income tax.
