At the moment we're still upgrading AACR2 records in AACR2 but once we experience staff turnover may have to change this policy. Hopefully by then we'll all have had lots more experience with
RDA so it won't be too much of an upheaval. One reason we aren't turning AACR records into RDA is that I find the Toolkit very difficult to use...

As regards AACR2 records, we derive them from other sources if an equivalent RDA alternative is not available. However, any edits are made in RDA. We decided early on that staff could
not be expected to catalogue simultaneously in both standards. This may result in a certain degree of hybridization, but it’s a pragmatic approach.

Thanks Katrina,
Yes, we are doing the same with imported records.
If there’s an RDA record available, then we would chose that. If there’s no existing RDA record, but there is a good AACR2 record, then we would import that as is instead. We would
only upgrade an AACR2 record to RDA where it would have required substantial editing to make it an acceptable AACR2 record anyway.
What are others doing about this?

Good morning everyone, Katrina Clifford from Kingston University (one of the co-moderators). Looking forward to a full 2 days of discussion.
We’ve moved mostly to RDA – we moved on 1st October last year. The main exceptions we have are theses which are still AACR2 as they are created through an export from our
Research Repository and certain books in the various Special Collections that are being done using DCRM(B). We are though, accepting AACR2 records that are imported as AACR2 and not upgrading them

Subject: [CIG-E-FORUM] CIG e-forum on adopting and working with RDA - welcome
Good morning and welcome to the CIG e-forum on adopting and working with RDA. I’ll be co-moderating along with Thurstan Young from the British Library, and Katrina Clifford from Kingston University and we’ll
be here between 10am and 4pm over the next couple of days. We’re delighted to have a number of people signed up to the e-forum and are looking forward to sharing knowledge, experience and questions as we consider the following topics:
Monday morning: Planning and preparation
Monday afternoon: Training
Tuesday morning: Policy
Tuesday afternoon: Productivity/workflows and summary.
This will help give some direction to our discussions but they aren’t set in stone, so don't feel you can't post something you wanted to talk about if you are only around at a particular time of day. If you're
posting about something new, then please give your subject header a relevant title so that those participating can keep track of conversations more easily. We’ll have a lunchbreak between 12.30 and 2, but please feel free to keep posting over this time as
well.
On a practical note it might be worth me mentioning at the start of the day that messages sometimes take a little while to appear on JISCmail lists, so if your message doesn't appear straight away then please
don't worry or re-send. We're not moderating the list, so it will get through.
So, to kick us off for today, please feel free to introduce yourselves to the list and let us know where you are up to with your RDA implementation or plans. Have you moved to RDA yet, and if so, when? If not,
do you have a date in mind when you are planning to move to RDA? And are there people who aren’t planning to move to RDA at all?
