Dear All,

We would like to bring your attention to the call for abstracts for the first annual joint Equality Challenge Unit and Higher Education Academy Scotland conference on Equality and Diversity in Learning and Teaching in Scottish Higher Education (website: conference call).

The questions the conference aims to address are:

·         Higher education (HE) is becoming increasingly diverse: in student population, in routes to entry and in modes of learning. At the same time, increasing focus is being placed on academic standards and student attainment. How do we, as learning and teaching practitioners, negotiate these competing demand?

·         How do we create learning and teaching environments and experiences that ensure attainment for all students?

·         How can we utilise different modes of learning to ensure equal and fair chances for educational success?

·         How does the drive to ensure equal and fair attainment of a diverse population affect and/or drive academic standards?

Contributions in the form of workshops, papers, posters and debates are welcomed from HE learning and teaching practitioners (graduate teaching assistants, lecturers, academic developers etc.) and researchers (postgraduates and early career researchers as well as established researchers) who are exploring these questions in their learning and teaching and/or research activity.

Deadline for abstracts: 24 January 2014.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us on [log in to unmask].

Thanks and best wishes,

Pauline Hanesworth (HEA Scotland) and Freya Douglas (ECU)
