She acted of surprise. I could not think

but only stammer, I being amazed.

It was in my nature, like a deep wound.

I was hungry, being hunted, bleeding



 inside a notional self I would preserve.

She was free; never quite fully charged;

but crept up, not willing to go, and grabbed

hold on one wall to begin to speak,



 voice harsh, masquerading; and, in all things,

taking in others with whom I tried to laugh

though they were being watched by calm police –



 *they* must have been collecting for a zoo,

all of us; and I saw her, unconcerned

while she sought to be loved, taken over.
