The writer may be a caver, but given that the hole is getting "bigger all the time", it seems ill-advised for his wife(?) to be standing on that spot in the second photo!  She's on a block that's already started to move.

Does anybody know what kind of material is showing in the sinkhole walls?  Glacial sediments??
