The Department of Film, Theatre & Television, University of Reading.

Invitation to apply for PhD Study and Studentship Awards for 2014 in Film, Theatre and Television.

We have a range of funding opportunities to support PhD candidates at the University of Reading, including University studentships and scholarships awarded by the South, West and Wales AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership, of which the Department is a member. This partnership will award up to 50 studentships each year over a five-year period from 2014.

Film, Theatre & Television has an excellent reputation for innovative research within and across our disciplines. The Department pioneered the study of film in UK higher education. Our research includes both theoretical and practical study, and we have a well-established tradition of practice-as-research. Our students benefit from outstanding new facilities in the Minghella Building which support practice-based research in digital media and multi-media performance, and include a digital cinema, two theatres licensed for public performance, an experimental performance space, a sound stage/multi-camera television studio, editing rooms, and audio post-production spaces. We have an exceptionally vibrant postgraduate culture, with an annual postgraduate student-led conference, Journeys Across Media (JAM), and several student-led research groups. Our research specialisms focus on stage and screen performance and production in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries in a range of international and transnational contexts, while students and staff have well-established links with practitioners at both local and global levels.
