Hi Elle,

On the ss Great Britain we use smells and dispensers from Dale Air:

http://www.daleair.com/dispensers/vortex-standard

It’s basically like a glade plug- in where you put a small beaker of their scented oil in the top, and the heat disperses the smell.  However, I’m not sure how it would work if you wanted to use smells you’d sourced yourself, and the idea with these is to disperse the smell so it may not be what you’re after if you don’t want the whole exhibition to smell. They do seem to do a range of dispensers though, and I know they do smell cubes where the smell is reasonably contained which we have used for activities in the past. Certainly worth giving them a try.

Thanks and good luck,

Jude

Subject: smells in galleries

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me. I want to include a few smells in a 1970s exhibition that we’re opening but I’m not sure of the best way to contain them. I’ve been warned that I definitely want to be able to put a lid on them or they’ll make everything stink.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Elle
