From time to time I receive emails about various “leadership” programmes for “disabled” people, and sometimes, as of now the inner sociologist in me asks what is the leadership model employed, and what is the model of disability that is assumed? I do wonder that the concept of leadership requires there to be followers, and I myself would rather neither a leader nor a follower be, but to follow my own path wherever that leads me. I would rather be an educator than il duce, but that is enough of etymological puns.
The question is whether leadership is seen a “commodity” or “good” that is transactable in a market economy. A qualia that can be purchased or exchanged as an adjunct to oneself as ones styles of clothing are. Whether one dresses to impress or to keep warm being the analogy here. Leadership is all very well if you know the path, but if you don’t. Oh well then you are bluffing no matter what.
Sometimes perhaps, tis better to remain the village Hampden, than the campus Che Guevara.
